Let's not forget New Orleans' Katrina.
It took place in the richest country of the world.
I have been living abroad for 36 years, and I cannot comment fairly on the Haitian government.
I can only say one thing for sure we need to put away our pride for a minute, and let the US rebuilt the country.
They helped France be the country it is today, so we need to work with them. I have been following this earthquake for over a week now, and we are all to blame.
I started to hear nonsense about occupation, but I assure you the US has no intention to occupy us. We are all guilty Haitians, so let's take what the white men give us and use it for our benefits.
Haiti is in the dark ages, and needs to catch up with the rest of the world.
Our country needs all of us, and we do not have to live there to help our brothers and sisters..
You can adopt a child, and save the life of one person.
I know a nurse who make money, and live alone.
She lives in a 4 bedrooms alone, and have been married three times.
She also own other properties, and have money invested.
She cannot have children, but is too selfish to adopt the child.
There is no guarantee the child will love you back, or be greatful to you. You gave your blood to the system, and paid so much taxes.
You gave all your youth, and strength.
A Haitian child should profit from your sweat, and blood that you gave to this country for years.
If you have any skills you should go there, and volunteer your time. We can learn from the "Love a Child" Program, and see what two old whites are doing near the border with SD. They have built homes, schools, hospitals, cantines, orphanages, and mobile clinics.
STEP ONE: Let's change our mentality.
Unless our mentalities change no amount of money in the world will ever help us, and we are doomed.
If you cannot travel to Haiti do something in your neighborhood.
Teach an adult to read - Tutor a child - Become a big brother, or sister - Teach an English Class -Translate - Be a mentor - Haitian parents don't understand the school system, and we are losing our kids to prisons.
We speak English, and some of us went to school here. Some of our brothers, and sisters are living here for years.
They do not know how to function properly in this society, and we can teach them many things.
Ladies be a big sister to a young girl - Take her to the movies - buy her a burger - take her to the library & teach her how to use it - Teach her how to use a computer - Do her hair - Take her with you to get her nails done - Visit her school and talk to her teachers - Buy her a pair of Jeans for $10.00 - Talk to her - Help her prepare for college, and teach her the importance of education - Tell her you are there for her - Listen to her issues, and guide her. Etc...
Please do something...
God Bless.
