Moun Damou Pa Kite - Haitian Saying...

Moun Damou Pa Kite - Haitian Saying...

There is a famous Haitian saying "Moun Damou Pa Kite" (People in love stay together) --- You think that's true?

Famous Haitian music band Skah Shah even sings about it: "Moun damou pa kite, Romeo e Juliet, Ferdinand, Isabelle..."

I know many "Moun Damou" who end up leaving each other (kite)

On the other hand, I know a few people who have been together for a very long time but I would not necessarily call them "Moun Damou." Their relationship falls more on the category of another Haitian saying "Tout Abitid Se Vis" LOL...

What do you think about that?

City of Pilate, Northern Haiti - View from Morne Calvaire

City of Pilate, Northern Haiti - View from Morne Calvaire

Look at this photo... I had a chance to spend a few days in the beautiful city of Pilate, Northern Haiti, hometown of a close friend of mine. Pilate is a beautiful and very green little Haitian city on top of a mountain in the Plaisance Arrondissement, in the Nord Department of Haiti...

Waking up in Pilate is a breath of fresh air and I mean that literally... Pilate is one of the rare places I visited in Haiti where you can sleep all night long with no air conditioning and no fans (vantilatè).

The streets of Pilate are fully paved although, getting there from Gros-Morne, I must say, is an exciting off-road experience.

The photo you are looking at is a picture I took while standing atop "Mòn Kalvè" (Morne Calvaire or Calvary Hill in English) a steep rocky hill right outside the city.

"Si ti kò-w pa bon, pa pran chans monte Mòn Kalvè nan Pilate... LOL... Se eksperyans k-ap pale... "

I was so freaking tired half way up the hill that I stopped pretending that I was taking a picture... And that's how this breathtaking photo came to life.

Stay tuned for more stories from Pilate Haiti...

Have you ever been to Pilate?

Are you from Pilate?

Yon pakèt Kabrit achte Haiti pou al vann Sen Domeng

Yon pakèt Kabrit achte Haiti pou al vann Sen Domeng

Menm lè yo ap viv an Dominikani ak lot kote nan diaspora a, yo toujou manje ti vyann kabrit yo.

Philippe Kieffer - Born In Haiti - World War II Veteran

There are many Haitians World War II Veterans out there... Philippe Kieffer is one of them... Born in Port-au-Prince Haiti, chef des commandos de la France libre (comander of the Free French Forces)

On 6 June 1944, at 0731, the Bérets verts ("Green berets") landed in Ouistreham, Benouville, Amfreville and Bavant, designated as Sword Beach. Philippe Kieffer, recently promoted to capitaine de corvette, led his men personally.

The unit suffered 21 killed and 93 wounded; Kieffer himself was almost immediately wounded twice, hit by shrapnel in the leg, but refused evacuation for two days. Kieffer rejoined his unit on 14 June, in time to take part in the breakthrough towards the Seine and Honfleur. Along with two of his men, he was the first member of the Free French Forces to enter Paris
