Some People In Haiti Think Cholera Is Superstition and Witchcraft

There is a witch-hunt going on in Haiti for cholera witches... Some people in Haiti believe witch doctors are bringing cholera to town, they think it's superstition - wanga - and now, and they are lynching the witches! Can you believe this?

Haiti cholera superstition

They are killing innocent people with machetes and stones, and burning them in the streets of Haiti.

Yep... They think cholera is witchcraft... Yo panse se wanga... Wow!

Nan bon lang kreyol...

"Yo panse se moun ki ap fe yo mal... Yo voye yon zonbi kolera sou li..."

An verite Dieu... Nou antrave!

Instead of rushing the cholera patient to the hospital, they seeking supernatural help instead, and the patient end up dying in the process.

Family and community members of these unfortunate cholera victims are retaliating by attempting to hurt and murder anyone whom they believe killed the victim. (i.e the witch doctor)

Ohhh Jezu!

A Grand'Anse police officer told AFP:

''A dozen people accused of importing cholera to a region that so far has been spared were killed with machetes and stones and their corpses were burned in the streets"

A prosecutor, Kesner Numa told AFP:

"These people are accused of witchcraft related to cholera." The attackers believed the victims were trying to "plant a substance that spreads the disease in the region... They really believe that witches are taking advantage of the cholera epidemic to kill..."

Sad to say, the prosecutor mention that there has been repeated cases everyday since the first lynching cases took place

Men nan kisa the FEAR OF SUPERSTITION mete nou!

Pray, pray, Pray! I feel so bad for these people.

It is not good what is going on there.

I wonder who is doing this thing.

Not humane at all. I think so much is going on there that some have just got a mental breakdown.

Enough has happened there to cause such mental disorders.

It's unfortunate, very unfortunate.

All I can do is pray for Haiti.

Our people don't know about science, they are not educated and they can't read. All they know and all they believe in is "wanga".

Thanks to our leaders for not making education affordable and a priority for all. Now that's result, the people acts by their instinct and believe.

I am wondering what will be

i feel sorry about that erroneous belief.

Cholera is an health issue.

superstition and witchcraft have anything to do with it.It is unfortunate that people still beleive in this type of nonsense. What they really need is a very good dose of health education to improve their health
