Haiti Migration - Life in Chile is not what it's cracked up to be. Some Haitians want to come back home

More than one percent of the Haitian population has moved to Chile but it is not the promise land that may expected. A good friend mine is considering coming back home once he's done paying his travel debts.

"I lost my job," my friend said, "now I cannot find a new one."

Another friend who just moved to Chile a couple of months ago said rent is expensive. 3 Haitians live in one room to save money on rent. "If you don't speak Spanish, your stay in Chile will be tough," he said.

Benissont Joseph, a young Haitian, told the Miami Herald: "Chile is a real deception. It's utter desolation... But better you're here than you are not."

The young man stand on the side of the road every day hoping ot find a day's work to pay his monthly rent.
