Back in 2017 Haitians went to Chile at an alarming rate. By the end of that year, the number of Haitians who entered Chilean territory was well over 100,000 within two years. by the year 2019, the number had grown to close to 200,000 Haitians in Chile.

Here are the numbers:

43,898 Haitians migrated to Chile in 2016, authorities said. Seven months into 2017, the number of Haitians who had migrated to Chile that year was already at 44,289.

The 8th planeload of Haitian immigrants who are voluntarily returning to Haiti arrived at Toussaint Louverture International Airport Wednesday, April 24t, 2019.

89 Haitians citizens decided to leave Chile on their own free will and returned to Port-au-Prince via this special Chilean government flight.

So far, a total of 1,262 Haitian migrants have returned home in 8 flights labeled "Humanitarian flights". These Haitians have signed a declaration saying they will not return to Chile for nine years.

Young Haitian commits suicide upon returning from Chile

Port-de-Paix Haiti - A young Haitian who recently returned form Chile committed suicide Tuesday December 18, less than a week before Christmas.

35 year -old Sony Tanis was found dead in a latrine. The tragedy occurred in a neighborhood called "Nan Demelus", 3rd communal section of the municipality of Port-de-Paix.

According to news reports, Tanis was suffering from stress related illness after he came back to Haiti from Chile back in September.

Tanis is not the only one who severely stressed after making a short journey to Chile expecting a better life only to return to Haiti disappointed and broke.

Third plane load of Haitian immigrants arrive in Haiti from Chile

A third planeload of Haitian immigrants who are voluntarily returning to Haiti arrived in Haiti Monday. 179 Haitians left Chile and returned to Port-au-Prince via a special Chilean government flight.

Already, about 500 people who have returned to Haiti in 3 flights labeled "Humanitarian flights". These Haitians have signed a declaration saying they will not return to Chile for nine years.

Life is tough for these Haitians in Chile who spent a fortune to go to what they believed would be a promise land. They decided to return home. But what opportunities are waiting for them at home?

More Haitians returning from Chile in "Humanitarian Flights"

A second planeload of Haitian immigrants is has returned from Chile back to Haiti in a Chilean Air Force plane on Monday. A total of 181 Haitians were on that flight according to news report.

These flights are labeled "Humanitarian flights" returning Haitians home from Chile free of charge on one condition: These Haitians have signed a declaration saying they will not return to Chile for nine years.

Surprisingly, 1600 Haitians in Chile have singed up for this free flight back home. Many of them are living in terrible conditions in Chile and cannot find a job. They prefer to start over in their home country.

Over 100 illegal Haitians arrested in Bolivia trying to cross from Chile to Brazil

Human traffickers are using Bolivia as an illegal crossing of illegal Haitians from Chile to Brazil. last weekend, more than 100 Haitian immigrants were detained in Oruro and Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

According to news reports, these Haitians were being crossed over from Chile to Brazil through Columbia, the country between Chile and Brazil.

The head of Interpol in Oruro, and Interpol in Santa Cruz, Paúl Saavedra, explained that this was not the first time this year that this type of movement of Haitians was involved.
