Haiti - Health : Mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus in Haiti

Haiti Medical Alert
There have been news reports of the presence of the chikungunya virus in Haiti... This is a virus that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying mosquitoes. Once infected you will have a bad fever and severe joint pain...

The Center for disease control (CDC) reported earlier this month that there were countries and territories in the Americas where chikungunya cases have been reported.

These countries include: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin, and Sint Maarten.

Looks like chikungunya virus crossed the border from the Dominican Republic into Haiti

To learn more about this chikungunya virus and how to protect yourself from it, visit the CDC Chikungunya virus page. The main thing you should try to do is to avoid mosquito bites.
