My Life and the people who Influenced me - Who do you listen to?
Food for Thought - As a Haitian Thinketh...
Let me give you a couple of tiny example in my life, tiny because my family and friends also read my newsletter and I don't want to shout them out... LOL...
Keep in mind... This article is not about the motivational inspirations we get in life, I am only talking about our small habits and some of the things we do everyday...
1) The Soap I use
My favorite soap is Irish Spring and that's because when I was growing up in Haiti that was the soap of choice in my house.
2) I am a coffee drinker
I grew up with my grand mother, she was a heavy coffee drinker, there was always a warm coffee pot on her dining room table. so I am kind of addicted to coffee...
3) I am a christian
OK... I am not one of those 7-day a week at church kind of a christian but, because I grew up in a christian house, I have christian beliefs... There are certain things that I would never to whether I go to church or not... You could say these christian values are engraved in my system...
3) What about politics?
Well... This is where it gets complicated. I was never into politics growing up, perhaps that's why my family and friends have not been able to influence my political beliefs. Although my father spent years in jail as a political prisoner under the Duvalier Regime, he was careful not to teach us to HATE. He did teach us that it was jealousy and envy around him that landed him in prison and not just the fact that there was a brutal dictator in power.
As far as my friends, I have friends who are Lavalas, De Facto, Duvalierists, Tet Kale... you name it. They have not been able to influence me one way or the other since I do my own research and develop my own belief... Thank God!
4) Personal Life?
I am not going talk about that but I will admit to you that my mom, my dad, friends and relatives would EACH prefer that I live a certain way, do or NOT do certain things, live in a location they think is best, and work in a profession they think is suitable... Bad luck for them... I am a rebel...
If I was sitting here to tell you about everyone who influenced me and in what way, then I'd be writing a book...
To finish... There are many things I do everyday and choices I make that were influenced by the people around me. When I go older, there are a few things I consider "my own decision." I am just glad that I made the decision at a very young age to choose who my friends are... Thank God for that!
QUESTION: The things you do everyday, do you ever stop and think about who, amongst your family and friends, influences you to do these things?
