Haitians Import Everything, Haiti imports reached an all time high back in October
Besides some of the fresh fruits and vegetables that comes from the countryside, the Republic of Haiti imports everything. On average, Haiti imports $266,000,000 US dollars of goods and commodities from other countries each and every month.
In October of last year, 2017, Haiti imports reached an all time high 0f 408.16 million US dollars according to TradingEconomic.com
Wow... How is that helping the Haitian economy and job creation?
Make me wonder... What if all that money, or most of it, was being reinvested in the in the country?
Haiti's ranking in Forbes Best And Worst Countries For Business 2018
Forbes released its best and worst countries for business 2018 and Haiti is not exactly where we would like it to be in that list. Haiti is not quite opened for business according to the Forbes list.
Forbes determined the Best Countries for Business by rating 153 nations on 15 different factors including property rights, innovation, taxes, technology, corruption, freedom (personal, trade and monetary), red tape and investor protection.
Haiti ranks 151 in the list 153 countries as one of the worst countries for business, third from the bottom, out ranking only Gambia and Chad.

We call them "Ti Machann" and most of us do not respect them for what they do for a living.
We have a tendency to respect the Haitian doctors, lawyers, even the "NOTAIRE", yes... a notary public, a service that is available at every post office and every UPS store in America, but is a really BIG deal in Haiti, but we have no respect for the "Machann Fresco" and the young man in the street corner selling phone cards for a living.
