There is possible comparaison between the two countries, and we are living in the dark ages in Haiti.

The D.R. received massive amount of money, and supplies from the US government.

They benefited from the earthquake, and was doing fairly well before the tragedy.

We have Americans going to the DR for surgeries, because it is cheaper and not too bad. Medical traveling is big business in Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

I have a friend who traveled to the DR for a tummy tuck, and she could never afford plastic surgery here. She looks great at her age, and after having children.

I would cross the border to give birth in the DR even if it was not free, and if I could afford to pay for it. I would encourage women to cross the border to give birth if it is free, or if they have the money to pay for it and I have heard horror stories about the general hospital maternity ward. I understand mothers give birth downstairs, and have to climb the steps after to get sutures on the upper floors.

I am a woman, and a mom. I cannot even begin to understand going up the stairs after pushing a baby, and it is barbaric.

We use to have a few decent hospitals when I was growing up in Port au Prince, and out of the cities.

I remember Canape Vert, Chancerelle, and Hopital du Sacre Coeur.

I was born in the 50s at a home clinic, and my parents were able to afford the doctor.

My mom had a c-section, and the doctor never discovered she was a diabetic.

Doctor Beauboeuf was a top notch doctor, and it was a lot of money at the time. My pediatric was Docteur Mondestin, and his son took over the practice.

We were blessed, and very fortunate.

We were able to afford the best doctors in Haiti, but none of them discovered our chronic problems and we later found out in the US. My father had a B-12 deficiency, mom was a diabetic, and I also had some issues.

They both passed away now, and our health care is bad.
