As a current Embassy Employee, I can honestly tell you that there is no specific guidelines on tourist visa issuance.

It is a one on one interview between the applicant and a Consular Officer.

As an applicant, your job is to prove to us that you have ties to Haiti that will convince of your intentions to return.

Needless to say, those ties have to be strong enough, and you have to be convincing.

One common question that is usually ask by the Officer is: "Have you ever traveled out of Haiti before"?

While it helps to have a passport with many exits and entry stamps, and in Haiti's case, more often it's gonna be a D.R. Visa, because not only it is easier to get, but it's also the cheapest way out of Haiti and back. It is not, however, this so called magic answer to getting a US Visa, like most Haitians believe it is.

Last but not least, your interview and the mood of the interviewing Officer are the key factors in your 3-5 minutes hell.

Also, before you go to your interview, keep in mind these simple questions, and how to prepare yourself for them:

Why do you want to visit the US?

Do you have friends or family there?

Do you have a job, and how long have you worked there, what do you do at your current position?

WHAT TIES YOU TO HAITI THAT WILL MAKE YOU COME BACK?

N.B. Beware of imposters and fraudulent documents.
