Why do Haiti medical labs charge so much more for their services?

I just met a Haitian woman who paid over $300 us for some medical tests because of some headaches she's been having. Unsatisfied with the results she decided to go to the neighboring Dominican Republic where she took the same tests for 2000+ pesos, a little bit over $50 US.

Medical laboratories in the capital of Haiti charge so much more for their services that it is ridiculous.

I am sure you will agree with me that $300 US he's a whole lot more money than $50 US. It is almost like these people know the majority of Haitians do not have access to leave the country and seek medical treatment elsewhere. So they charge you whatever price they want because you have no other option.

What do you think about that?
