Haiti 17 Octobre - Dessalines and the Eradication of Poverty
There are a couple of things I just found out about the death of Dessalines that I want to share with you today but not now... FIRST...
Let's talk about: 17 Octobre 2012 - UN Observes International Day for Eradication of Poverty.
DID you know this???
The 2012 theme for the International Day for the Eradication of poverty is: "Ending the Violence of Extreme Poverty: Promoting Empowerment and Building Peace."
DID you know this???
At the 2000 Millennium Summit [That was 12 years ago], world leaders committed themselves to cutting in half, by the year 2015 [That's 3 years from now], the proportion of people living in extreme poverty, on less than $1.25 a day [That includes Haiti].
Over the last decade, millions have overcome extreme poverty [does that include Haiti?] and attained better access to health care and education [does that include Haiti?]. Extreme poverty rates have decreased in EVERY region of the world [Haiti too?].
You know... I didn't get the memo!!! (:
Over 39 million more children attend primary school. Access to clean water has increased to 89 per cent [In Haiti as well?].
So whad did I find out about the death of Dessalines:
Read: 17 October 1806 - Did Dessalines Really Die In Pont-Rouge?
Question: Do you believe that poverty has been eradicated in Haiti in the last 12 year?
Or maybe, the "Eradicators..." are saving the best for last.
Good things come to those who wait... You know?
What do you think?

Poverty definitely hasn't been eradicated.
It's unfortunate because many unforeseen events have set Haiti's economic progress back a bit. Including natural disasters like the 2010 earthquake and the global effects of coronavirus.
There's still hope but we do have a long way to
Where the part about the death of Dessalines, that you said you wanted to share?
