Sages-Femmes Haiti

Sages-Femmes, this is what they call midwives in Haiti. For some time, midwifery has been evolving in Haiti. It is a medical profession with defined competence that consists of accompanying the pregnant woman before, during and after childbirth.

These sages-femmes women occupy an important place in society, yet these professionals are not treated as such. We do not appreciate their dedication to the cause of health. (lenational.org)

Haiti's ministry of health now has a national institute for midwifery education, l'Institut national supérieur de formation de sages-femmes (INSFSF) which is slowly tuning midwifery in Haiti into a respectable profession.
