The Haitian Dollar

There is no other way to put it... With over 140 Haitian gourdes for one U.S. dollar, this is abuse. But whose fault it is?

Right before the fall of the Duvallier Regime in Haiti, the Haitian currency was 5 gourdes for one US dollar. 30+ years later, the US currency is almost twenty times more.

Sadly, Haitian authorities have nothing to say about this!

Once upon a time, FIVE Haitian gourdes was equivalent to ONE U.S. Dollar. it was written directly on the Haitian currency. Nowadays you need lots of Haitian gourdes, more than 70 gourdes for one US dollar.
