La Nouvelle route du Littoral reliant l'aéroport de Saint-Denis-de la-Réunion au principal port de commerce de l'île va coûter plus de 133 millions du kilomètre.

Pour ce faire, la NRL sera construite sur la mer ce qui permettra de l'éloigner de la falaise. Elle sera également redimensionnée pour résister aux houles cycloniques. Le projet de 4 voies, qui prévoit aussi une bande d'arrêt d'urgence et une piste cyclable, se compose de 2 digues (1 km et 5,7 km) et d'un viaduc de 5,3 km avec à chaque extrémité un diffuseur routier.
