Most of the time, a Haitian family, rich or poor, will buy an expensive casket, pay to keep the dearly departed in the morgue for over a week so families living abroad - The Diaspora - can buy expensive plane tickets to come to the funeral.

Add to that, the amount of food, beers and drinks (gaspillage) being consumed by "les ingrats" (the mooching visitors) between the wake and the burial the dearly departed, it makes you wonder how much of that money, could've been used to keep the person alive.

"There is some form of hypocrisy in regards to funerals in Haiti," says journalist Bob C. of Radio Caraibes FM. "10 percent of the cost of the funeral cost could have kept the person alive."

Funerailles En Haiti says...
