Why Do Haitians Succeed Outside of Haiti?

Dear Woodring,
Interesting subject! However, I do not think it is a "Haitian Thing" I think it's a human issue.

What I find difficult to believe is that: If most people dream or would love to be successful, why does it bother them when they see others being successful?

As the saying goes:"Success is not a destination, it is a journey"
The late Earl Nightingale defined as follows: "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal" If people do not have vision, goals, and an action plan, success will remain what it is for most individuals" A Dream"
Ask any successful person and he or she will tell you that achieving success requires a plan and if one does plan to succeed then one has another plan "failure"
That being said, I found your subject interesting because I thought a Bible Study class on that very topic last Thursday.

Look at:
Passage John 1:45-51:
45Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 46"Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked.

"Come and see," said Philip.

47When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false." 48"How do you know me?" Nathanael asked.

Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you." 49Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." 50Jesus said, "You believe[a] because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that." 51He then added, "I tell you[b] the truth, you[c] shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

You see, it is not how people see us or treat us that matters, it is how we respond or react to them that makes the difference.

Jesus was kind to Nathanael despite his prejudice view toward Jesus.

Nathanael prejudged Jesus before he even met Him, but when he met Jesus and Jesus greeted him with honor and respect, suddenly, his attitude toward Him changed quickly.

People want success, but they just do not know how to reach it, therefore they show resentment to others who have reached it.
Is there a true definition to success?

I believe that success means different things to different people.

Is it a "Haitian Thing" or not?

I believe it is a human issue instead, but since they are so many that are suffering in Haiti, it becomes more noticeable than other places, therefore it is more visible ( and not to forget, some of our brothers and sisters love to show off that success even when they are not there quite yet..)
I would like to close by saying that the Bible also says that "the poors will always be among us" what we can do is be kind and helpful and considering of their pains, and may be they will change with time...
