The Most Romantic Spot in Haiti - A Poet's Perspective
We asked Haitian Writer and poet Josaphat-Robert Large 5 questions including this question... Read his answer...
Answer: The most romantic place in Haiti is without a doubt the town on Jérémie. Many reasons enlighten this fact. The number one being it's location.
At the tip of the Island, Jérémie is overlooking Jamaica and Cuba If one is in a hurry, Jérémie is a place that can be reached only by boat and by plane. And when the weather is upset (when the Vent Nordé gets it's velocity to the high level), visitors can neither get to the city nor leave its perimeters.
Nature imprisons you, asking to stay and admire its beauty for a longer period of time.
Jérémie is also the birthplace of Haitian poetry.
Everyone in the street will recite verses for you. This is one of the few cities in the island where intellectuals get more respect than millionaires.
There is a place, not far from the beautiful beach named l'Anse d'Azur, this is where poets from all generation have inscribed their names so that generations and generations of admirers will glimpse at their handwriting.
That place is called: Le Rocher des poètes.
