Farewell to a Journalism Icon: Remembering Liliane Pierre-Paul of Radio Kiskeya

On Monday 31 July, 2023, Radio Kiskeya announced the death of their famous journalist Liliane Pierre-Paul over the air. The Haitian media was mourning the death of one their best.

At the age of 70, Liliane Pierre-Paul suffered a heart attack at her home in the hills above Port-au-Prince. She was preparing to head to her beloved Radio Kiskeya to host her popular 4pm news program "Journal 4h".

Liliane's son, Harold Isaac, confirmed the tragic news. Later, Radio Kiskeya announced her passing on air, marking the end of an era in Haitian journalism and leaving behind a legacy that will forever be remembered.

Radio Kiskeya, a well known Haitian radio station in Port-au-Prince, was devastated by a fire Friday night, December 21, Haitian journalist Liliane Pierre Paul, co-owner of the radio station said all is lost.

Radio Kiskeya was set ablaze after a fire broke out in a neighboring house. despite all efforts fo control the fire, it spread to the radio station. By the time the fire trucks arrived it was too late.

"We fought for two hours trying to save Radio Kiskeya. In vain. The fire destroyed everything and despite our calls, the firefighters arrived on the scene only after the damage. Everything is lost, " Liliane Pierre Paul told Haitian daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste.

The Haitian media is commemorating the death of journalist and agronomist Jean Leopold Dominique, the owner of Radio Haiti-Inter who was assassinated in front of his radio station 18 years ago on April 03, 2000.

One Haitian journalist said on radio today he cannot believe that 18 years has gone by and "l'enquête se poursuit..." The investigation continues, as is always the case in Haiti..

The strangest part of this 18 anniversary of the death of Jean Dominique, Haitian journalist in Haiti is also discussing the recent disapearance of the another Haitian journalist, Vladjimir Legagneur.

There is a big media battle over Haitian Senator and former rebel leader Guy Philippe, incarcerated in the United States... The battle is clear between Radio Eclair journalist Louko Desir (emission Matin Debat) and Scoop FM journalist Garry Pierre Paul Charles (emisison Haiti Debat)

Louko Desir says Guy Philippe was arrested for drugs and he negotiated with US officials for a lesser prison sentence. Meanwhile. an man close to Guy Philippe went to Scoop FM to say otherwise.

Many Haitians in the Diaspora, especially the older generation, has this "Ti Radio" that is only able to pick up one Haitian station for news and information. One Haitian man in New York finally decided to throw his away... Why?

"They have become so negative when reporting the news it's like nothing good is happening in Haiti," the old man said.

"The news is supposed to be balanced," he said. "They focus only on bad news, raising my blood pressure. So I finally picked up the darn box from by nigt table and threw it in the trash."

Haiti Media - Hinche - 7 Radio Stations and 3 TV Stations Shut Down

CONATEL shutdown 7 radio station in Hinche Haiti and 3 television stations Thursday, 21 Mar 2013, saying that there radio stations are operating illegally.

Super Continental Radio (98.1 FM), Prince Fm (97.3 FM), Radio Africa (94.7 FM), Centre Inter Radio (98.9 FM), Daily Radio TV (95.5 FM), Radio Tele Men fm (89.1 FM) and the TV station Leve Kanpe were shut down. Their transmitters were seized by the departmental director of the National Council of Telecommunications (CONATEL) Pharel Marseilles.
