A team of young men and women went around some of the poorest neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince to find out how many schools where functioning. Here is what they found out.

Haitian Students go back to school with the blessing of the Opposition
Haitian students are finally able to go back to school Monday, January 06, 2019, after many months of protests and "Peyi Lock" with the blessing of the opposition.
Opposition leaders like Senator Youri Latortue and Andre Michel spoke out saying it is time for the children to go back to school so they do not lose the school year although this will not stop the mobilization against president Jovenel Moise.
Street protests will continue but only on weekends, they say.
Less school days for students in Haiti, Education Ministry publishes new calendar
Due to all the political problems in Haiti recently, students have been unable to go to school for nearly 3 months, The education ministry has decided to publish an adjusted calendar so the school year does not go to waste.
Instead of 945 hours of schooling, middle school kids will have 733 hours. Instead of 1,134 hours, high school kids will have 882 hours.
Those hours will be critical. instead of a detailed program, it will more like a revision program, going over the essentials so students learn enough to be able to take required exams.

I told a friend of mine that school was open in my neck of the woods in Haiti and he replied with the most shocking answer. "I don't think I will mention your city name on my radio program," he said, "Because I don't want the others to come and cause problems for you."
