Essential products prices sky high in Haiti right now, one bag of cement costs $1,000 gourdes
While Haitian politicians are fighting for power and the gangs have total control of the streets and the lives of the Haitian population, the price of essential products like food and construction materials is sky High in the country.
According to news reports, one bag of Portland cement used for home construction is as high as $1,000 gourdes in the capital.
One bar of 1/2 inch rebar (fer demi) costs $750 gourdes.
Can you imagine the amount of money that a poor person in Haiti needs now another to build a tiny shelter to live in.
Sellers of these products are blaming the devaluation of the Haitian currency compared to the U.S. dollar and the fact that the State (l'Etat Haitien) is not doing anything to help the situation.
