Automobile Insurance Haiti

Can you believe this... My Haitian automobile insurance is expired and Haiti's only auto insurance company (OAVCT) is closed indefinitely.

So what am I supposed to do now?

Continue driving my vehicle without insurance or park the darn think and walk?

What you didn't know? Employes of OAVCT are on strike and the doors of all the OAVCT offices across the 10 departments of Haiti will remain closed. that's what some employees said Tuesday, July 3 2018, in a press conference.

Read this... Haitian police giving out tickets to drivers for expired auto insurance while OAVCT, the Haitian State insurance company, is on strike.

Motorists cannot renew their insurance.

Should they drive with the expired insurance or park their vehicles until the OAVCT Strike is over?

Have you ever been involved in a car accident in Haiti? There is something about driving there that scares me... I've been told that if you get into an accident in Haiti, and God forbid you injure somebody, although you have car insurance, you are responsible for the full care of that person, hospital bill and all... Is that true?

I heard this from more than one driver and it's scary!

I would love to hear a true story from you if you have any experience in this matter.
