Spending Christmas 2013 in Haiti - My FIRST Since 1988
Christmas in Haiti
I don't know if I should call Christmas 2013 a HAPPY Holiday for me, but deep inside, I feel something that I cannot explain. Christmas in Haiti... WOW...
Having lived in the Diaspora for so many years, I've to come to have a love-hate relationship with the holidays...
While I did enjoy the few days off, and the time I get to spend with all the Diaspora family and friends of mine, Christmas on TV and inside the department stores and shopping malls always looked better and much more colorful than Christmas at home.
I cannot say much more than that because I want you to have as MERRY a Christmas as you can...
Have your white Christmas if you live in New York... Enjoy your EGGNOG...
A always had this nostalgia about spending Christmas at home... in Haiti... And here I am, I didn't know what to expect...
It is not at all like Christmas in the Diaspora... There is nobody in the streets here in Hinche Haiti going on shopping sprees... Honking horns, busy busy... There are no Shopping Malls here with Jingles all the way... It is certainly NOT a white Christmas here...
NOPE... It's the same man down the street banging on his "Fer Forgé," The same old lady outside frying his "Paté," and the same mechanic working on that old truck parked outside...
This christmas, my family members here in Haiti, a couple of friends, and myself, we will celebrate Christmas the Haitian way, as best we can...
Merry Christmas!
