How do you tell someone that the person he is dining and wining with wants to do him harm because he is jealous of his acomplishments

You know something? As I grow older, I realize that to trust is not necessarily a good thing.

I have been in situations where a man's supposed best friend is telling me things that makes me feel like he's a threat to the other friend because of jealousy and envy... It should have been me and not you type of thing...

Question: how do you warn the other person without putting yourself in the middle of it? How do you protect the innocent so he knows what evil surrounds him without directing that hatred towards you?
