MONEY in Haiti: What is the Currency Symbol for the Haitian Gourde?

The universal dollar sign is "$", the Pound sign is "£", and the Euro sign "€". What is the Currency Symbol for the Haitian Gourde?

I notice in the Dominican Republic, the currency symbol for the Peso is "RD$" but in the streets it is just "$" but it is understood that $500 in the Dominican republis beand 500 pesos.

In Haiti, it is a whole different ball game.

We always talk about about the "Haitian dollar" that in reality doesnt exist... It clearly says "5 gourdes" and we keep calling it ONE dollar.

That's where it get confusing:

If you have an item for sale in Haiti and you put a sticker price on the item for $10, we have huge a problem: People start asking you is it 10 Dollars US, 10 dollars Haitian, or 10 Gourdes.

How can we talk about the economy in Haiti we can't even decide what currency we are using.

What do you think?
