Recently, overheard a niece in Haiti discouraging her auntie from coming back to Live in Haiti... "You are a diaspora," she said, "Everyone will think you have money. don't come live here, it is too dangerous..." Seriously???

The niece living in Haiti comfortably at a public square giving the auntie every excuse in the book for her to remain in the United States not knowing why auntie wants to go home or how she is living over there.

Her main reason: "Don't come back auntie... some nuns were attacked in the area where you are building your new home... one of them was injured... Criminals are going around town hurting and killing innocent people..." as if nothing bad happens in the diaspora...

She gave the auntie the list of every one who died recently from a violent crime.

Haiti is a country folks... Like every other country in the world, we have criminals too... Yes... Bad things happen everyday but is that a reason to tell a family member who has been working hard for twenty, thirty, forty years hoping to return home one day to wait until Haiti become this perfect little country with absolutely NO crimes before they return home?

Many Haitians living in Haiti are unrealistic. They think every other place on the planet is PARADISE and Haiti is HELL on earth...

I feel so sorry for that auntie who I fear will probably die waiting for Haiti to change while other family members in Haiti enjoy that new construction she just spent her life savings building and that FEAR prevents her from enjoying...
