Fey Lianne Panier / Lyann Panye: A Beloved Haitian Remedy for Anemia

There's no good soup or Haitian soup pain without a handful of fey lianne panier--also known as lyann panye in Haitian Creole. This popular plant is more than just a flavorful herb for soups; many Haitians believe it holds strong medicinal power, especially for treating anemia.

In Haiti, it's widely believed that fey lianne panier can help those suffering from anemia, including sickle cell anemia, known locally as anemie falsiforme. Generations have used this plant as a natural remedy, either by boiling the leaves into a tea or adding it to food, trusting its ability to strengthen the blood and support better health.

While science may still be catching up on confirming all its benefits, for many Haitians, fey lianne panier is more than just tradition--it's a trusted cure passed down through the years.

I'm not a doctor, and this is by no means medical advice, but I want to share something I heard from an old Haitian doktè fey on a YouTube video. He gave some interesting details about fey lianne panier and what it's good for.

In the video, the man said his wife suffers from Anemie Falsiforme (sickle cell anemia), and that's why he always keeps the lianne panier plant growing in his backyard. According to this second generation dokte fey (leaf doctor), you can make a tea with fey lianne panier and drink it every couple of weeks. He described it as a very powerful leaf that many people trust for helping the blood.

But he also gave a word of caution: if you suffer from high blood pressure, be careful when using fey lianne panier. It's strong, and like with many natural remedies, not everything works for everyone.

If you want to hear it for yourself, look up the video on YouTube. The title is "fey lian panier poukisa li bon" (lianne panier--what it's good for), and the channel is called Tout Glwa Pou Bondye.

Again, I'm just sharing what I learned. This is not medical advice--always be careful and talk to a health professional if you're thinking about trying any kind of herbal remedy.

In my little digging, I did discover research paper online where they talk about Chamissoa Altissima (Lyann Panye) as on of the plants used for treatment of anemic symptoms in Haiti. It is a 111-page research paper, the kind of research we don't think exists out there, and it's available for download at mcgill.ca

I thought I would write about this today because every time I travel to Haiti, my mother always have be bring all these dry leaves and roots that she makes tea with. Also, I notice many people are coming to my web site looking for information about fey lianne panier. so I did t little digging for you.
