My Haitian father recalls how much Haitian currency he exchanged for 100 US dollars back in 1988 when he neede money to travel to the United States.

"Back in 1988, I exchanged 518 gourdes for $100 US because I neede money to travel to the United States," my father said.
Compare that to 10,300 gourdes needed nowadays for the same 100 dollars US today.
