Sages-Femmes, this is what they call midwives in Haiti. For some time, midwifery has been evolving in Haiti. It is a medical profession with defined competence that consists of accompanying the pregnant woman before, during and after childbirth.

Here is a photo of 22-year-old Haitian mother Doresca Camicile, a resident of Twama, a locality in Fonds-Verrettes Haiti, who gave birth to four babies (quadruplets) at a hospital in Fonds-Parisien Haiti.

The woman in white is midwife (sage-femme) Edeline La Paix who assisted her during childbirth.

Haiti's ministry of health now has a national institute for midwifery education, l'Institut national supérieur de formation de sages-femmes (INSFSF) which is slowly tuning midwifery in Haiti into a respectable profession.
