Haiti Internet Access - DSL Speed Test - Access Haiti Basic Package will make you PULL your Hair...

Here is an actual DSL Speed test taken from my Access Haiti 3G Internet access in Hinche Haiti. This is for the "Residential Plan Basic Package" with a promised speed of 256 kbps download and 128 kbps upload...

At the time of the test, I was getting 30 kbps (4 kB/s) download speed and 93 Kbps (12 kB/s) upload speed...

For about $33 US, tax included, I can barely listen to an online radio station without it cutting up.

So you're thinking... Why would I get an Internet package with 256 Kpbs download to start with?

Answer: In Haiti, Internet Access cost an arm and a leg. If you want High speed internet, expect to pay 142 to 230 gourdes per gigabyte of high speed Internet... That's USD $3.15 to $5.10 per gigabyte of download...

Think about it, Natcom charges 800 Gourdes for 3.5 GB of high speed Internet, Digicel charges 1,000 gourdes for 7 GB.

Access Haiti charges $358.80 per month (that's over 16,000 Gourdes) for their Platinum Internet plan with a download speed of only 3 Mbps.

These Expensive Internet plans are for NGOs maybe, not for the average consumer in Haiti.

I tried to upgrade to the $60 US Bronze package, that was a headache... Access Haiti increased my bill to $60 US but they did not increase the internet speed one kilobyte more!

It is really sad to admit that in a Capital city that Hinche is (Chef lieu du Departement du Centre) one cannot get a decent Unlimited Internet Access for a decent price.

Well, there is nobody in government watching for you, the consumer.

According to their licensing contract with CONATEL, they are supposed to give you what you paid for. But do you think CONATEL is going to care for you the consumer, or the under-the -table kickback money they get?

What do you think Haiti is rated so badly on the corruption list?

You wonder why Dominikani kite nou dèyè?

Wonder no
