Leaving Haiti was the best thing for me at the time. I left Haiti when I was 12 in search of a safer and better life. We were not "poor" but things could have been alot better.
First of all there were so many coup d'etat that my brother and I hardly spent one whole week without being kept home. secondly, I believe if a family is in lack and a member is capable of making it better if that means migrating to another country whatever it takes they should do it. Just remember who you are, where you came from, and the people you've left behind.
Hence, If we leave our home "pou la vi miyo" we must remember the ones that are still there struggling to survive and give back as much as we can. Furthermore, the U.S. was built by immigrants, immigrants who knew why they left their homeland and what it is they are searching for, and that's the mentality we as Haitians need to have. I believe the main reasons for most people who are fleeing Haiti are the lack of security, lack of jobs, lack of "good" education.
I believe once these things are establish and people can live in their country with peace of mind and the country is productive you will find less and less people leaving Haiti; after all regardless of what people say the fact still remains..."There is no place like home"
That's all I have to say about that...
