Gelin, you are precisely right to say that Haiti's position is not God's fault.

It IS our fault.

Where do all these problems come from?

Why aren't people doing anything about it?

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

All these evil things come from within and defile a man." (Mark 7:21,22).

Aren't many of these things the very problem we're seeing in Haiti?

If the problem comes from the heart then the heart will have to change.

Look again at the world--There isn't a nation in the world that's completely free of these problems.

True, some have them to a lesser degree than others, but you have no ground for saying that seeking God makes no difference.

No nation is truly seeking God at this point, so you have none to compare other nations to. Even America, which began as a nation that served God, has stopped seeking God and is now full of disagreements, crime, families falling apart, and children being abandoned and left untaught.

You are also right that there is poverty and lack of education among both Christians and Voodooists.

There is still a difference, though.

The Bible is very clear about the difference between people who seek God and people who seek themselves in Psalm 37:16-20, 23-25.

16 A little that a righteous man has
Is better than the riches of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
But the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The LORD knows the days of the upright,
And their inheritance shall be forever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time,
And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish;
And the enemies of the LORD,
Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish.

Into smoke they shall vanish away.

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the LORD upholds him with His hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.

God doesn't change, and He follows through on what He says.

The truth is that NO ONE is able to seek God, no, not unless God changes his heart.

The Bible says our hearts are DEAD in sin. That's why we can't seek God--we're dead. Ephesians 2:4 says, "God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).

" When our hearts are alive we can seek God! I John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I am praying that the people of Haiti will confess their sins to God and become free.
