it does matter whom we serve only when it comes to our personal salvation and our relationship with god and our neighbors (whom we should love as ourselves according to jesus-christ).

the gospel stops there.

jesus himself sent his own disciples with the following message: He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned" (mark 16:15-16).

the gospel is about being saved or being condemned.

it's not primarily about being a good citizen (although all who follow christ must be good people).

but we know that a non-beliver can be a model citizen whereas a preacher can be a crook unable or unwilling to obey the laws of his own country.

i disagree with you on 2 points:

1) take any country in the western hemisphere: they are not better off because they have acknowledged who god is, they are in a better position than haiti simply and simply because they manage their resources well, and they make an effort to obey their own laws. haiti has never even tried to respect and obey its own laws. therefore haiti cannot prosper.

2) it's not true that haiti has abandonned god. there are close to 50% of the population who identify themselves as christians.

the haitian people is god-loving and extremely religious.

that explains the success of the gospel of christ in the country since the earliest days after independence.

even if haiti was 100% christian, that [in and of itself] would not be a garantee of prosperity.

i repeat: haiti will bounce back and become prosperous again when the law of the land is respected by most (if not all).

now, understand me: i believe in jesus-christ and i believe that his message of love and righteousness will take us out of this mess no matter what. but, what i won't swallow is the idea that god has put a curse on the land because of what happened with boukman.

i don't find that idea in my bible, therefore i reject it.
