Haitians do not like elderly people.

There's nothing in the culture that inspires respect for the older generation, especially women.

When I was growing up, a 40 year-old woman was considered as having lost her prime and sexually unappealing.

That's the idea!in our culture, men have been sexual predators, and like Don Juan, always looking out for 'fresh meat.' No wonder an elderly woman who, most of the time, has no family, lives alone, and may suffer from depression, turns out be branded a lougarou.
