I say "nobody likes to be told what to do" and there is a specific reason behind it.

Sometimes you may find yourself in a position where you have no choice but to do something.

You may do it because you want to, or you may do it because you have to.

There is a way to get everything you want and actually make people want to do it for you, you can actually get people to want to help, to want to participate.

It's simple...

Ask Differently!

If you say "Go get me some water", you are giving a direct order.

There is a "Or else" attached to it, it's just a silent "or else".

On the other hand, If you say "Can you please get me some water?" it is still a direct order but the answer to that is "No Problem!" and the person feels that they are doing it because they want to.

I stongly eccourage each and everyone in the community to read this book: "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie.
