Now that we're safe what comes after security

Harold - August 7 2007, 7:08 PM

I am glad you are enjoying your stay, But it's a shame that your expectations were so low so that the fact you have not heard any shootings is seen in your eyes as a great achievement.

Whereas most people in the world, who goes back to their country and take it for granted that they are going to be safe.

My friend I think you are seeing things through rose colored glasses.

How many Haitians have a laptop?, is knowledgeable about the ins and outs of e business?, can afford a generator?

etc. The fact is Haiti needs a lot of work I am 36 not an old man by any stretch of the imagination but I believe that "Haiti pap janm bon" as long as we remain content to live a lie in cyberspace while in reality we lack everything from clean drinking water, food etc.

I certainly hope that the powers that be would work towards improving security, congratulations, but there is more that is needed.

Let's not celebrate mediocrity but instead let us at least shoot for real development like helping every Haitian meet their basic needs and improve their standards of living, Something like that would erase the doubts that linger in the minds of "old people" like me.

Security is a great start but it is basic, Old people including my father refers to a Haiti that was much better than present day, They are not in denial! and excuse them if they do not join in your enthusiasm.

May be! just may be their goals for Haiti goes beyond the basics.

Salut
