The ideal commercial relationship between countries is one where there is balanced trade.

This rarely occurs because countries specialize in certain things.

For example, DR produces good rum, Switzerland produces good chocolates and Germany excellent cars, etc...

As you can already see, this was a bad move from Haiti's part. If Haiti is still importing eggs from another country it really didn't do anything but maybe benefit someone or a group with a quota to import eggs. This would be a monopoly and monopoly's are not good for commerce.

It is only a matter of time before the Haitian's start buying Dominican eggs once again.

Only an inexperienced government with inexperienced civil servants can make such a foolish mistake.

One thing I can tell you, someone in Haiti is making a big commission on egg imports...

for now.
