FLASH: Protesting police officers in Haiti burn down Carnival stands
A group of Haitian police officers protesting for their rights decided to step on the rights of Haitian carnival goers by burning down Carnival stands that was set up for Carnival in Port-au-Prince.
What started out as a peaceful protest in the area of Delmas and Petionville turned to violence when it reached Champs de Mars in downtown Port-au-Prince near the National Palace.
The police officers on Monday afternoon set fire to the carnival stand of la Mairie de Port-au-Prince. The fire spread to other stands nearby destroying many.
Many Haitians are now wondering whether it will be possible for the national Carnival which is scheduled for February 23, 24 and 25 to be held in a peaceful manner.
Others wonder it is a good sign for those who are supposed to protect and serve to turn violent in such a manner.
