Cap Haitien Haiti - A New Urban Development Plan

There was a business meeting in Haiti Monday Between Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe a delegation of Now Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), led by Michaëlle Jean, special Envoy of UNESCO for Haiti, around the urban development plan and expansion of Cap-Haitien and Milot...

Several members of Laurent Lamothe's cabinet were present at the meeting... The idea is to come up with a plan to change the image of Cap Haitien and Milot to make them look more of a representative of the historic value they represent for the country.

According to Le Nouvelliste, Haiti Tourism minister is taking about replicating Venice in Cap-Haitien. The plan is to open up Grand-Rue in Cap Haitien and move the stores (Magazins) outside the city, keep clean the river at the entrance of Cap Haitien, among other things..

Mangonès Frederick, architect and partner of Now Institute, holder of this urban development plan, said he was ready for the challenge. However, he requested the involvement of the state (l"Etat Haitien), in addition to the payment of $200,000 USD needed to study the feasibility of the plan, in order to have full access to information. Otherwise, like dozens of others before him, this plan is doomed to failure, Le Nouvelliste said.
