This only means one thing, the ambassador said: many of our compatriots have changed their status in the United States.

It also means that there Haitians with TPS in the United States who have not yet changed their status on order to stay in the United States legally after July 2019 when TPS expires.

In an interview to Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste in New York, Ambassador Paul Altidor did not confirm how many of these Haitians had their status changed to a permanent resident status but he said he is working with Haitian authorities on this matter.
