Being exposed constantly to the smoke from a pile of burning trash will eventually kill you.
Even if you do not suffer immediate effects from trash burning, the damage to your health can be more serious the longer you are exposed to the smoke. The effects can include damage to your lungs, nervous system, kidneys and liver.
Chronic diseases like bronchitis, emphysema and most cancer can take 20 years to develop and can be caused by low exposures to smoke and toxins which originally appeared harmless.

Teaching the people in Haiti about the environment was never a conversation in the country.
Even people living in the US still don't care because in the Caribbean it was never a topic.
Education starts from young and instills in you these things.
