Haiti Education: 90 percent of primary schools in Haiti are non-public

Can you believe this? At least 90 percent of Haiti's primary schools are non-public. in other words, only 10 percent of the primary schools in Haiti are public schools.


Education in Haiti

Compare that to the United States where about 87% of school-age children attend public schools.

What about the neighboring Dominican Republic? Over 80% of children in the Dominican Republic attend public schools according to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

According to The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), most schools in Haiti are managed by communities, religious organizations and NGOs.

Our organization, Haiti Plunge Inc. has built and supports five schools in the nine mountain villages we serve.

The government does not invest in education.

I believe they like the status quo so that a select few can remain in power.
