Haiti Historian Georges Corvington Dies at 88

"He was the greatest living Haitian historian," says Georges Michel, a fellow historian and longtime friend of Georges Corvington.

According to Michel, Corvington died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Port-au-Prince, the capital city he wrote so much about. He also mentioned that Covington was spent a few weeks in the hospital recently and the cause of death was heart failure.

In a note released by the Haiti National Palace communications bureau, President Martelly says Haiti has lost a treasure of inestimable value with the departure of George, who, through the seven volumes of his work, "Port-au-Prince Through the Ages," has traced, with astonishing accuracy the history of Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince over several decades.
