Naomi Osaka became the first Japanese woman in 22 years to reach the Grand Slam semifinals on Wednesday, then she made history...

Naomi Osaka will face her childhood idol Serena Williams at the US Open Grand Slam finals.

The No. 20 seed became the first Japanese woman in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam singles final with a 6-2, 6-4 win over defending finalist and No. 14 seed Madison Keys at the US Open.

With her father being Haiti, that makes her also the first Haitian woman ever to reach the Grand Slam finals.

Culturally speaking, Naomi Osaka, according to a wonderful article about her and her family in the New York times, is one of the most intriguing young stars in sports today: an athlete who has grown up in one place (the United States), represents another (Japan) and, for some, symbolizes something as large as the world's multicultural future.

Add to that the Haitian household and culture (Haiti) that nurtured her while growing up in the United States, Naomi Osaka is simply one of a kind!
