According to new reports from Haiti, the Haitian minister of Interior had a meeting Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), a German company who specializes in banknote and securities printing, and the Haiti Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) to organize a gradual transition from ordinary passport to ePassport...

The current Haitian passport were already being produces by Giesecke & Devrient since 2004 but with the recent vote of the law on "Electronic Signature" obtained at Haiti's Lower House early September 2014, Haiti can now equip airline passengers with new digital passports.

What is an e-Passport?

An e-Passport contains an electronic chip and a biometric identifier. The chip holds the same information that is printed on the passport's data page: the holder's name, date of birth, and other biographic information. The chip may also contain a digital photograph of the holder.

Certain information on passports must be written in different languages so that custom officers in foreign countries can understand.

Haiti's official languages are Kreyol and French.
