Haiti Government passes new Labor Law to allow working the Night Shift

This new Haiti labor law was published September 21, 2017. In a press release Thursday, the government made it known to the general public.

By publishing this law, President Jovenel Moise, aims to promote full employment, encourage investment in all economic sectors of the country and put an end to any obstacles that may hamper the freedom of Constitution, the note reads.

The previous labor law in Haiti considered the hours between 6 pm and 6 am "the night hours". Employees who work during this period must have a salary increase of at least 50% of the day's salary.

Now all that has changed. Workers who work any of the 3 eight-hour shifts will get regular pay.

President Jovenel "aim is to ensure the strict application of this law, which consists of authorizing night work and the mixed day, that is to say including hours of day work and hours night work," the note says.

This of course will create new opportunities in Haiti. The country literally shuts down after 4 pm and on weekends. Let us hope this new law jump starts the economy and night life.
