Haiti's relationship with other countries: Give and Take, you give, I take

The other day was talking to a Dominican man who said this to me: "Haiti's relationship with other countries is give and take: They give, Haiti takes...

Food for Thought - As a Haitian Thinketh...

I have to admit, I was a bit embarrassed. OK, I was very embarrassed, the man is talking about my beloved Haiti and I didn't have a solid answer to defend myself.

Many many people in Haitian government talk about "partnership" with other countries, he said. What partnership? You cannot enter into a partnership with anybody when you have nothing to offer.

OK, time to cut the conversation short!

"When Haiti fixes herself, she will earn the respect of her so called partners," he said.

Perhaps you have an answer for this man because I surely didn't.

What do you think about that?

Haiti does not have a give and take relationship with any country.

Haiti import a lot from the united States.

The goods imported are not free. Haitians pay for them. Haiti also does business with Cuba, Jamaica, and even the Dominican Republic.

Personally, I can't deal with ignorant people who have no knowledge of the real Haiti.

If they did they would never make the offensive remark that this Dominican made. As an enslaved country Haiti was the richest colony in the world and had much to offer.

They were punished for wanting to be free. Sadly, once they won their freedom, they really didn't have the skills to protect it. Europe and USA took advantage of these circumstances and literally raped the country of its wealth.
