Earthquake in HAITI - The Haitian Technical Unit for Seismology (UTS) of the Bureau of Mines and Energy informs the population that a small earthquake of magnitude 3.7 on the Richter scale was recorded on Sunday 2 September 2012 at 8:03 am

Located only 9.7 km deep, the epicenter was located, according to the USGS, 4 km south of Léogane, 25 km southwest of Carrefour and 33 km west-southwest of Port au Prince.

As shown in the epicenter location map below, it is very difficult to know whether this is a replica of the 12 January 2010 earthquake or a demonstration of the South Peninsula fault.

Nevertheless, this new little shake reminds us of the permanent seismic activity of the island and the importance to always prepare for this insidious threat.
