When a was a kid growing up in Hinche Haiti, I used to see palm leaves hung in front of people's houses Easter weekend. Catholics used palm to make little crosses to put in their shirts when they go to church Easter Sunday...
In Haiti, Good Friday is a legal holiday...
Almost every Haitian goes to church on Easter Sunday... LOL... For many of them, this is the only Sunday they go to church...
FOOD: Haitians do not eat read meat during Easter, they eat fish.
Here are few little things I remember about Easter in Haiti...
There is this tree they call "MESTIYEN." I used to hear that if you cut open this tree on Easter Sunday it will bleed... so I never did.
There is is also this little toy call "VONVON" that kids used to make for easter... we tie a flat piece of metal to the end of a string. When you spin it, it makes a sound and you can hear the kids spining it saying "Bondye mouri Bondye Leve..."
This how we celebrated easter in Haiti... What about you?
