Haiti Construction - Boss Mason Afraid of Each Other

I asked a Haitian "boss mason" for an estimate on a construction job in Haiti, just an estimate, then I ask second one... He flat out refused to even give me an estimate simply because I asked another before him...

"That's how it is in Haiti, " someone says to me. "Once you talk a 'boss mason' about a job, worse, if you bring him to the 'chantier' (the construction site) nobody else will take the job unless you lie to him and tell him he is the first one."

Are you freaking kidding me?

You mean to tell me that I cannot shop around for prices in Haiti?

Is that against the rules?

You mean to tell me I cannot shop around for the best qualified person for the job?

You mean to tell me once I am introduced to 'Boss Gera' I am stuck with him even if he is a 'Tet Mato' ???

No way... Is this for real???

I didn't even hire the man yet! All I asked for was a darn estimate. So... What? I am stuck with him now?

This sucks... This cannot be for real???

Has this ever happened to you or someone you know? Do you think this is the right way to do thing?

Well, I have done construction in Haiti, I would say its best to hired them in day to day basis...But if you have a contract with a Boss Mason another will not take job even if the first one screw up. So I would say hired a boss mason and some worker to do the work and pay them daily.

And its usually cheaper

Sadly yes, this is it in Haiti.

WE should be able to have as many estimates as we feel like we need, just like we do in the US. What about competition?

We can only hope for a better Haiti with more jobs, so they will no longer need to kill each other for 5 gourdes.

Devlopman se sa nou bezyen...

You already have an estimate.

Why getting a second?

It's simple they are scared of dying.

If the second boss mason take the job the first one would kill
